Deputy Director of Health and Safety

The University of Southampton is seeking to appoint a Deputy Director of Health & Safety to lead operational delivery of Health and Safety advisory services. In this role you will lead specialist high risk hazard teams along with the wellbeing team to provide a first-class service to stakeholders across the university. The appointee will have oversight of the directorate’s strategic and operational activity to ensure essential cover at operating times, including the provision of advice out of hours.

In addition, you will deputise for the Director of Health, Safety and Risk, together representing the University’s interests. You will work with senior stakeholders, internally and externally, helping to develop the consideration of Health, Safety and Risk within decision making. You will continue to build on the great work being carried out by the teams, bringing a unified approach to ensure consistency and high standards across the University.

You will have proven leadership and senior management experience within large complex organisations with excellent stakeholder management experience of working with people from diverse backgrounds and levels of seniority. The successful applicant will have a skill level equivalent to achievement of a senior professional qualification or postgraduate degree (e.g. NEBOSH Diploma, MSc Occupational Health & Safety) and will be a chartered Member of Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (or equivalent).
